If the WatchCat installation program is not able to install WatchCat
correctly, here is the way to install manually, starting from scratch.

1. Run CLEANWPS from the WatchCat directory. Ignore any errors,
although errors here are a pointer to the fact that your INIs
   might have a fault.
2. remove all WatchCat things from CONFIG.SYS (PATH,LIBPATH,
   BOOKSHELF,DEVICE= and RUN=). Then reboot.
Thereafter, delete any WatchCat files, including WPCAT.DLL
from the \os2\dll directory of your boot drive. If one or
more files can't be deleted, your INIs might really have an
   error. To be sure,
3. Check your INIs. Best thing I know is to use CHECKINI from
the WPTOOLxx.ZIP package. You'll find it on hobbes. Let it
correct any errors but save your INIs before to be sure.
4. Now reboot again - your system must be WatchCat-clean now.
5. copy watchcat.sys and watchcat.exe into the watchcat
directory you want to use. These should be the only two files
there for now. Run WatchCat.EXE and see if it shows everything
   correctly.
6. Now insert a line:
     DEVICE=x:\path\WATCHCAT.SYS KEYB:CA-W /NODLL /NOWPS /NOMOUSE /NOKILLPM
at the END of your CONFIG.SYS and reboot.
7. Does the system reboot without errors? Now open a shell and type
"detach watchcat" in the WatchCat directory. If you hear a low pitch
sound, there is a problem. Does the WatchCat.EXE process run? (use
"pstat | find /i "watchcat" in an OS/2 shell to see.)
Now press Ctrl-Alt-W (one key after another, not too fast). Does
WatchCat activate? If it does, everything is fine.
8. Insert a RUN=x:\path\WATCHCAT.EXE line at the end of your CONFIG.SYS
and reboot. Any errors? Can you activate WatchCat with Ctrl-Alt-W
*after* the WPS has come up and everything is quiet? If not, try
detaching WATCHCAT.EXE from your \STARTUP.CMD (this is especially
   true for OS/2 2.11!)
9. Add the WatchCat directory name to the very BEGINNING of your
LIBPATH, PATH and BOOKSHELF entries in your CONFIG.SYS and copy the
file WPCAT.DLL to the \OS2\ directory of your boot drive.
Thereafter, you can run the INSTWPC script from the WatchCat distribution
archive to get the WPS object. Don't forget to copy WATCHCAT.INF to
   the WatchCat directory!
