                          ---  Introduction  ---

These are just some quick notes. Please refer to the Styler/2 User's Guide
(STYLER2.INF) for more informations.

Styler/2 is an user interface enhancer for OS/2 Warp 3 and 4. Both the
aesthetics and the behavior of various OS/2 Presentation Manager windows
and controls can be easily modified to meet your needs.
You will be able to use bitmaps and shades as titlebar backgrounds, choose
any bitmap (of appropriate size) for the window buttons and enable all
dialog windows to use your favorite font.

Other features include:

   * window rolling,
   * titlebar hiding,
   * overriding the default size and position of maximized windows,
   * smooth horizontal movement of windows,
   * snap windows to the desktop edges,
   * moving a window by dragging its frame,
   * pushing windows behind the other windows,
   * selection of the entry field contents,
   * facilitating clipboard operations via mouse and/or keyboard
     combinations in entry fields and command windows,
   * autofocus,
   * mouse pointer hiding,
   * mouse button double-click emulation,
   * automatically moving the mouse pointer to the focus window.

This shareware version is fully functional and will work, without any
limitation, for an evaluation period of 30 days or 300 reboots, whichever
comes first.

Note:
If you installed version 1.1 please check the exception pages of the
titlebar, titlebar hiding and window rolling features: you can find
some odd sentences in the list besides MPTS.EXE.
This is due to a bug in the installation program of version 1.1 and
shouldn't cause any real problem. In any case, please use the Remove
button to get rid of them.

                            ---  What's new  ---

Versions 1.2.1, 1.2.2 and 1.2.3, distributed as patches, fixed several
problems:

   * WinOS2 session bug blocking the start of new WinOS2 sessions and the
     proper shutdown of the system.
   * Program exceptions not working correctly after reboot.
   * Restoring windows which were minimized while in rolled state.
   * Minimizing, restoring or maximizing command windows in rolled state.
   * The Unroll bitmap wrongly displaying as a titlebar button where the
     Roll bitmap is needed (excluding the case where both the options
     Auto-unroll when getting focus and Auto-roll when losing focus are
     active).
   * A serious problem with window moving or resizing while the window is
     disabled by a modal dialog.

This is the list of what has been changed, updated, added or fixed in
version 1.6.0 (smw160.zip) since the latest release.

   * My previous bank account at the Deutsche Bank is no longer valid.
     Please check the other available forms of payment.
   * Mouse clipboard shortcuts now work in multiline edit fields, static
     texts, buttons and list boxes as well as in ordinary entry fields.
   * Both mouse and keyboard shortcuts in command windows have been
     improved and now work more consistently even if the Shift key has been
     chosen as part of the keyboard combination.
   * Now it is possible to center align the text of the titlebars.
   * Now it is possible to automatically remove the horizontal scrollbar
     which appears in command windows when you increase the size by the
     MODE command.
   * Now it is possible to always operate in insert mode when working with
     command windows.
   * Now the arrow keys of the numeric keypad can be used for moving or
     resizing the command windows.
   * For registered users, the Preferences Notebook no longer displays
     (unregistered) when the program is disabled and then re-enabled
     (although it still will display that if the program is not actually
     registered).
   * Now it is possible to choose some keyboard combinations to perform
     various operations (sort, refresh, arrange, etc.) in folder windows.
   * Now it is possible to make the window keys perform various useful
     operations like opening system folders, accessing the WarpCenter,
     rolling or hiding all windows, etc..
   * The Move the pointer to the focus window feature has been improved.
     The mouse pointer movement is managed in a separate thread and can be
     adjusted in incremental steps [fractions of a second].

New in version 1.6.1:

   * Trial time has been extended to 60 days.
   * The program should work correctly even when PMSHELL.EXE is not
     used as PROTSHELL (see your config.sys file).
   * The documentation has been updated.

                  ---  Installation - uninstallation  ---

The program can be installed over a previous installation of Styler/2
(Smart Windows) v.0.81 or higher, without any need to disable the prior
version or to uninstall it.
If you installed a version older than v.0.81 you must delete the
SMARTWIN.INI file from the installation path before installing this
version.

The archive smw160.zip must be unzipped in a temporary directory, taking
care to preserve the archive's path structure.
If you are using the Info-ZIP group's free UnZip extraction utility, the
archive will unzip correctly by default. Simply open an OS/2 command
window, move to the temporary directory and type:

UNZIP SMW160.ZIP

If you are using a different extraction utility, read its documentation for
the appropriate unzip parameters.

After unzipping the archive, you must run INSTALL.EXE and click on the
Forward button to select the action you want to perform:

Once you select the proper action, click on the Forward button to install,
to recreate Styler/2 desktop objects, or to uninstall.

The other buttons will allow you to...

   * go back to the previous page in order to change some previous
     selection (for instance, the action to be performed or the
     installation path);
   * continue with the procedure;
   * terminate the program immediately;
   * read this documentation.

Installation details

Here are the step-by-step details of what happens when you click on the
Forward button. Please refer to this section if you cannot properly install
the program on your system.

  1. The installation program first looks for the flag file SMARTWIN.@ to
     enable the Install radio button, then looks in the \OS2\DLL directory
     and the OS2.INI file for any item from a previous installation.
     If any trace of a previous installation is found (or if you run the
     Installer/Uninstaller object later) the Recreate desktop objects and
     Uninstall radio buttons will be enabled as well.
  2. If you select to install, the next page will show you the License
     agreement . Please read it carefully before continuing with the
     installation.
  3. On the next page, you can choose the installation path. The default
     drive is your boot drive and the default path is \SMARTWIN unless you
     are upgrading a previous installation, in which case the previous
     installation path will be the default.
     Note that if you ever choose to uninstall Styler/2, the program files
     will be deleted and then a message box will ask your permission to
     remove the entire installation path with all of its contents.
     Therefore, it is advisable to avoid installing the program files in a
     directory which will contain other files or folders not related to
     Styler/2.
  4. Click on Forward to create the selected path. If the path doesn't
     exist, the program will create all the necessary directories. For
     instance, if you selected to install the program files in
     C:\APPS\TEST\SMW and none of the directories in the path exist, then
     the installation program will create all of them.
     If, for any reason, it is not possible to create the selected path,
     you should click on Back and select a different path.
  5. The final panel allows you to modify your previous selections.
     Click on Forward to start installing the files.
  6. A progress dialog will allow you to check the state of the
     installation.
     The installation procedure consists of the following steps:
        o If the Preferences program is open, it will be closed.
        o STYLER20 and SMARTWIN are added to the OS2.INI list of DLLs to be
          loaded every time a new process is started (SYS_DLLS -
          LoadPerProcess).
        o The installation path is stored in OS2.INI.
        o If the program MPTS.EXE is present in one of the directories
          mentioned in the path statement of the CONFIG.SYS file, it is
          added to the exceptions in order to let it work properly with
          Styler/2.
        o All unneeded files from a previous installation are deleted.
        o The following files needed for the current installation are
          copied to the selected path:
             + AFCUTL01.DLL
             + INSTALL.EXE
             + LICENSE.TXT
             + REGISTER.EXE
             + REGISTER.TXT
             + SMARTWIN.EXE
             + STLRES13.DLL
             + STYLER2.INF
             + STYLER2.TXT
        o The file SMARTWIN.160 is copied as SMARTWIN.DLL in \OS2\DLL.
        o The file STYLER20.160 is copied as STYLER20.DLL in \OS2\DLL.
        o All the bitmap files used for the titlebar and the window
          controls are copied to the installation directory. If you have
          modified a bitmap, the program will ask for your confirmation to
          overwrite it.
        o A Styler/2 folder object is created on the desktop, with the
          following items inside:
             + User's Guide -- the program documentation in INF format;
             + Read Me -- a text file with short notes on the program;
             + Preferences -- the preferences program;
             + License Agreement -- a text file;
             + Registration Notes -- short notes on registering Styler/2;
             + Registration -- the registration program;
             + Installer/Uninstaller -- the installation/uninstallation
               program.
        o A shadow of the Preferences Notebook is created in the OS/2
          System Setup folder.
  7. At the end of the installation procedure, a message will indicate if
     the installation has been successful, or if any critical or
     non-critical error has occurred.
  8. On the last page, the log file will show the details of the
     installation.

Uninstallation details

The uninstallation procedure reverses all of the operations described
above. Besides that, it will delete any new bitmap files you added to the
\BITMAPS subdirectories. In any case, a message box will ask you to confirm
the deletion of the installation path and other files which still can be
there (such as SMARTWIN.INI created by the application, plus any other
files that you yourself put there).
At the end of the uninstallation procedure, the SMWSETUP.LOG file will be
written in the root of the boot drive.
