DESCRIPTION:  
Provides a driver update disk image for use when installing RedHat 
7.3 Professional on the ATA Version of the ML 310.

The user will need to follow the instructions included below.  To 
complete this procedure, one formatteed floppy and either a 
UNIX/Linux or Win95/98 capable machine (with rawrite available) 
will be required.

HOW TO USE:
1.  Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
    to that directory.

2.  From that drive and directory, type

	tar -zxvf sp21810.tgz

    to extract the downloaded file.  The IMG file will 
    be created in the current directory.

3.  After the IMG file is extracted, you may delete the SoftPaq 
    file downloaded in step 1.

4.  Refer to the installation instructions below for how to install
    the driver.


INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Create the installation diskette – This will require either a 
Microsoft Windows 95/98 (with the rawrite utility available)or a UNIX 
based OS machine and a formatted floppy

1.1.  Win 95/98:
NOTE:  when decompressing the file under Windows, the intermediate file
name may appear to identify rh72as225c.tar (a file for RedHat 7.2) as 
the compressed image name.  This was a problem with an older name 
provided to this component but when the .inf file is extracted, the 
file will be RH7.3_DUD-MegaIDE_v2.25c.img.  
1.1.1.  Ensure that both RAWRITE and the .img file 
(RH7.3_DUD-MegaIDE_v2.25c.img) are located in the same directory.

1.1.2.	To create the Driver Update Disk:
1.1.2.1.  Type: rawrite <enter>
1.1.2.2.  You will prompted to enter the name of the boot image file. 
Enter the file name (RH7.3_DUD-MegaIDE_v2.25c.img) and hit 
<enter>.
1.1.2.3.  You will next be prompted for the destination of the file.  
Assuming that your floppy drive is A, type A and hit <enter>
1.1.2.4.  When the process completes, the command prompt will return 
and the disk creation is complete.  Label this disk “DUD_Megaide”.  

1.1.3.  Continue with step 2.1.

1.2.  UNIX

1.2.1.  To create the Driver Update Disk:
1.2.1.1.  Use the following command to create the driver update 
floppy:  #  dd if=RH7.3_DUD-MegaIDE_v2.25c.img of=/dev/fd0
1.2.1.2.  When the process completes, the command prompt will return 
and the disk creation is complete.  Label this disk “DUD_Megaide”.  

1.2.2.  Continue with step 2.1.


2.  Installing RH 7.3 Professional with the ML 310 as the primary boot 
controller:
2.1.  Start by erasing the system. This step ensures that you begin 
the installation process from a known non-configured state.
2.1.1.  Boot from the SmartStart CD-ROM.
2.1.2.  Select Run System Erase Utility from the Main Menu --> Yes.
2.1.3.  Restart the server.
2.2.  During POST, invoke the <F8> feature and enter the Integrated 
ATA RAID Configuration Utility.  Please refer to the ML 310 
System Installation Guide for details on configuration of Arrays.  
Save your changes and exit the Integrated RAID Configuration 
Utility.  The system will reboot.  Note:  If this step is skipped, 
then all drives will be defaulted to RAID 0.
2.3.  In RBSU, change the boot sequence so that the first boot 
device is the ATA RAID controller and the second boot device is 
the CDROM.
2.4.  Boot your system using the RedHat 7.3 Professional OS 
Installation Disk 1.
2.5.  At the boot prompt, type "Linux dd"
2.6.  Insert the Driver Update Diskette (DUD_Megaide) that you 
created in step 1.0
2.7.  Select “Yes” when asked for “Do you have a driver disk?”
2.8.  Select yes again and it will flash a message saying 
“loading megaide”
2.9.  Press Ctrl+Alt+F4 to switch to a different terminal and check 
to see if the correct driver version is loaded.
2.10.  Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch back to the installation screen.
2.11.  Continue with installation instructions specified by the 
installation guide supplied with Redhat 7.3 Professional.



3.  Installing Redhat 7.3 Professional with ATA RAID as the 
secondary controller:
3.1.  Install RedHat 7.3 Professional OS onto primary controller.
3.2.  During POST, invoke the <F8> feature and enter the Integrated 
ATA RAID Configuration Utility.  Please refer to the ML 310 
System Installation Guide for details on configuration of Arrays.  
Save your changes and exit the Integrated RAID Configuration 
Utility.  The system will reboot.  Note:  If this step is skipped, 
then all drives will be defaulted to RAID 0.
3.3.  Continue to boot your system using primary controller.
3.4.  Mount the Driver Update Diskette (DUD_Megaide) that you 
created in step 1.0:  /mnt/floppy
3.5.  Copy /mnt/floppy/modules.cgz to /root
3.6.  Unzip modules.cgz with the following command -- 
gunzip –S .cgz modules   This will give you a file called modules.
3.7.  Type cpio –idv < modules   This will create several directories 
within /root 
3.8.  Type uname –a  to determine kernel type.
3.9.  Change to the directory listed as a result of the previous step 
–  if kernel type is 2.4.6smp, then cd /root/2.4.6smp
3.10.  There will be a file called megaide.o.  Type insmod megaide.o  
to load the driver. (Note-you may copy megaide.o to /lib/modules/* and 
create a new ramdisk image if needed, where * is the kernel type.)
