Device Drivers

A driver is software that enables the functionality of a device in or attached to your computer system, for example audio and video devices.

The Dell™ Drivers and Utilities media contains core device drivers that you can use to restore the drivers in your computer. An auto detect feature on the media assists you in the selection of drivers by identifying devices installed in your computer and listing the appropriate drivers.

NOTICE: The Drivers and Utilities media contains drivers for devices that may not be installed in your computer. Do not install device drivers unless you first identify the specific driver intended for the hardware installed in your computer. Installing incorrect drivers may make your computer inoperable.

To install a device driver from the Drivers and Utilities media:

  1. In the Search Criteria section, select the system model and operating system for your computer.
  2. In the Topic drop-down list, click Drivers. The list of available drivers displays on the screen.
  3. Click the driver that matches the peripheral device or hardware installed in your computer.
  4. Follow the step-by-step instructions displayed on the screen.
